House Mariacher
Zurich
2010-2013
The Tower House is a raw, cost-efficient single-family home with natural materials, generous spatial qualities, and simple detailing. The load-bearing structure, circulation, and building services are consolidated into a compact core—an arrangement that creates layered spatial sequences and diverse visual connections both within the interior and to the outside.
Thanks to the careful execution of the structural work, the exposed concrete could also serve as the finished floor surface. Once ground and polished with varying grit sizes, the material becomes a high-quality, seamless terrazzo floor. Thermal activation of the building elements (TABS), integrated directly into the ground and ceiling slabs, transforms the structural shell into a gently tempered thermal mass—efficient, enduring, and architecturally coherent.
