Oasi

Sant'Isidoro

2019

We were commissioned to produce a design concept for a luxury resort hotel in Sant‘Isidoro, in the Apulia region of Italy. Oasi Sarparea lies next to the Ionian sea, a beautiful scenery characterised by 400 years old olive orchard. Olive trees are expressive in their sculptural form comprised amongst agricultural stone walls and a historic olive farm building. The design intervention wants to emphasise the magic of the existing elements that are tangible to this place in an eco-sustainable manner.

The design consists of a long and narrow single-story building that meanders around the olive trees. The building intends to leave intact a large part of the terrain, untouched by its elevated footing. At the same time the footprintof the building creates large courtyards with independent and unique identities. The living spaces allow for unobstructed views and a living experience focusing on the existing natural setting and elements on the site. A sensitive intervention without any borders and walls allows visitors and residents to walk freely through the landscape while being immersed by the beauty of history and the nature that one can sense in this this particular place.
