Gentle Renewal – Interior Renovation at House Zerfreila: As part of a targeted refurbishment, selected spaces at Hotel Zerfreila in Vals were functionally and atmospherically updated. These charming 23 m² studio apartments were originally built in 1967 to accommodate the growing middle-class tourism of the time. They are part of the hotel complex for which Peter Zumthor would later design the internationally renowned thermal baths.

The renovation aimed to preserve as many original features as possible while carefully bringing the spaces into the present. In addition to replacing all lighting fixtures and carrying out extensive painting work, all carpentry elements in the living area were refreshed: the third fold-down bed was repaired and reinstalled, the wall-mounted shelves above the bed were repositioned at a more functional height, and a tall corner cabinet was added to complete the room’s built-in furnishings.
